Baramati | Maharashtra: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar died on Wednesday morning after the aircraft he was travelling in crashed while attempting to land in Baramati. The tragic incident occurred at around 8.45 am, claiming the lives of Ajit Pawar and four others on board.
Ajit Pawar was travelling to his hometown Baramati to address a public rally ahead of the upcoming Zilla Parishad elections when the crash took place. Soon after the news broke, his nephew Yugendra Pawar was seen breaking down emotionally in public while speaking on the phone, reflecting the deep shock within the Pawar family.
Senior NCP-SP leader and former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh also appeared overwhelmed with grief and broke down in front of the media, struggling to speak about the sudden demise of the Deputy Chief Minister.
PM Modi, Amit Shah React
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah contacted Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shortly after the incident to gather updates on the Baramati plane crash.
PM Modi expressed his condolences on X, stating, “Saddened by the tragic air crash in Baramati, Maharashtra. My thoughts are with all those who lost their loved ones in the crash. Praying for strength and courage for the bereaved families in this moment of profound grief.”
In another post, the Prime Minister paid tribute to Ajit Pawar, describing him as a leader of the people with a strong grassroots connect, widely respected for his tireless service to Maharashtra. Modi added that Pawar’s understanding of administration and commitment to empowering the poor and underprivileged were noteworthy, calling his untimely demise deeply saddening.
