Annual Kas Plateau Flower Festival Begins, Attracts Tourists With Stunning Natural Beauty
The annual flower festival at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Kas Plateau, near Satara, commenced on Thursday, marking the beginning of a spectacular display of natural beauty. Although the festival typically starts on September 1, this year’s start was delayed by five days. The plateau’s famous flower display has not yet reached its peak, with full bloom expected in about two weeks. However, the recent rains have enhanced the beauty of the area, making it a must-visit destination for tourists exploring nearby attractions such as Thoseghar Waterfall, Koyna Backwaters at Bamnoli, Vasota Fort, and Sajjangad Fort.
To manage the influx of tourists, access to Kas Plateau will be limited to 3,000 visitors per day until the end of November. Online registration is mandatory, and tickets are priced at Rs 150 per person for those over 12 years old. According to Dattatray Kirdat of the Kas Plateau Committee, “We have taken measures to ensure a smooth and eco-friendly experience for visitors.”
To preserve the plateau’s pristine environment, authorities have banned smoke-emitting vehicles and construction activities. Eco-friendly huts, constructed from wood and locally sourced materials, have been set up for visitors. Additionally, CCTV cameras have been installed at several locations to prevent damage to flowers, and over 130 staff members have been deployed to ensure seamless operations.
Kas Plateau is home to over 850 species of flowering plants, many of which are endemic and endangered. The plateau transforms every fortnight due to varying blooming cycles, offering a unique experience for visitors. A shuttle bus service will transport visitors from parking areas to the plateau, accommodating up to 3,000 cars.
With its stunning natural beauty and conservation efforts, Kas Plateau remains a popular destination for nature enthusiasts and tourists alike. The festival will run until the end of November, providing an opportunity for visitors to experience the plateau’s breathtaking floral display.
