The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh warning of heavy rains in Maharashtra, with Marathwada and Vidarbha regions expected to bear the brunt. Heavy rains, accompanied by thunderstorms, are predicted in Mumbai, Thane, and several districts of Marathwada and Vidarbha today. A yellow alert has been issued for the entire Konkan region, including Sindhudurg, Pune, Raigad, Satara prompting tourists to exercise caution, especially in Ghat sections.

The IMD’s latest forecast indicates heavy rain in districts such as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Parbhani, Latur, and Dharashiv. Light rain is predicted in Beed district, while rain warnings have been issued for Akola, Amravati, Nagpur, Buldhana, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli districts of Vidarbha.

Mumbai, suburbs, and Navi Mumbai can expect rain, with residents advised to prepare for heavy downpours and potential disruptions.

Last week’s heavy rains filled dams, alleviating drinking water concerns, but severely damaged Kharif crops, sparking demands for compensation from farmers. Baliraja Janshakti Party has sought immediate compensation and panchnama (assessment) of crop losses.

The monsoon alert has heightened concerns among farmers, who are already reeling from previous crop losses. The government’s response to their demands will be crucial in mitigating their distress.
