Another huge crack appears on Chandni Chowk flyover in Pune; find out more

Pune: The newly constructed Chandani Chowk flyover is in the news again for all the wrong reasons. As per information, on the flyover arm towards Bavdhan, a massive deep crack suddenly formed on October 31, right next to the very first spot that was hastily patched up, endangering the lives of commuters once more.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Aarti Karanjawane, a resident of Bavdhan & AAP party representative said, “Earlier, on October 25, a massive crack had appeared on the Chandani Chowk flyover which was temporarily filled with patchwork. However, right next to it, another huge crack has surfaced. It is massively deep. Hence, we have put a plant in the crack & done it like a pooja. If a vehicle goes from it & something happens to it, who is responsible? It is a complete risk. When I was coming back from a program, I saw this. The crack is so deep that while planting the plant, it was going 6 to 7 feet deep. Commuters are suffering due to such shoddy work. Hence, proper resolutions must be implemented immediately.”

Bharat Todkari, Consulting Engineer, NHAI Pune said, “Expansion joints are to be put under the flyover. Currently, asphalting has been done on it. If expansion joints are installed during the flyover construction, due to traffic & vehicular movements, the joints get compressed, resulting in unusual sounds & weakness of roads. Expansion joints are installed on the side of Mulshi & Satara. In the upcoming days, expansion joints will be installed on the rest of the flyover as well.”

On October 25, massive cracks were developed on Chandani Chowk Flyover –

It was on the route coming from Bavdhan to the NDA side, causing serious concerns about the safety of citizens & commuters.
