Army Organizes Joint Security Conference for Incident-Free Amarnath Yatra

Srinagar, June 11 : A joint security conference of Army, police and civil administration was held on Saturday to ensure incident free conduct of this year’s Amarnath Yatra, officials said.

The 62-day-long Amarnath yatra commences on July 1 from the two traditional 48-km Nunwan route in South Kashmir’s Pahalgam and 14-km Baltal route in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal and will culminate on August 31 in Kashmir Himalayas.

“A joint security conference between Security Forces & Civil Administration officers was held with an aim to increase synergy, interaction and coordination between the civil and security agencies for the successful conduct of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra,” Srinagar based defence ministry spokesperson said.

“Detailed briefing and discussions were held during the meeting which provided an opportunity for deliberations on important issues of mutual interest impacting the security of the Yatra”, the spokesman said adding that “All officials stressed the need for harmonious functioning of the government agencies to make the Yatra successful.”

In view of the prevailing internal security situation, he said, an overview of the security was also undertaken to ensure complete synergy between all security agencies and the civil administration for a coordinated effort towards the achievement of the laid down goals for a smooth and incident free conduct of Amarnath Yatra.
