The much awaited Ashadhi Vari Palkhi 2023 is set to mesmerize Pune city from June 12 to 15. This iconic tradition has become the city’s most celebrated event, attracting not only tourists from Pune and different parts of Maharashtra but also from around the world. The ceremony is marked by tremendous enthusiasm, infusing the city with a lively and festive ambiance.

The Palkhi procession showcases revered saints of Maharashtra and draws Warkaris from across the state to participate. As the procession advances, the number of devotees steadily swells, creating a magnificent spectacle. Ensuring the safety and security of the devotees, whose sentiments are deeply connected to the Palkhi, remains paramount.

Pune Police Commissioner Retesh Kumaarr anticipates a gathering of around seven lakhs people for the Palkhi processions. Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sandeep Karnik highlighted that senior officers and constables will accompany the Palkhi, vigilantly monitoring any criminal activities or anti-social elements.

On June 12th (Monday), Shri Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj’s Palkhi will arrive at Bopkhel phata in Pune City Commissionerate. The palanquin will then proceed to Phulenagar for lunch and rest at Sangamwadi before reaching the Shri Palkhi Vithoba Mandir in Bhawani Peth via FC Road, covering a route spanning approximately 16 km.

Simultaneously, on the same day, Shri Sant Tukaram Maharaj’s palanquin will arrive at Haris Bridge Khadki in Pune City Commissionerate and rest at Tukaram Paduka Chowk, passing through the Old Mumbai-Pune highway and FC Road. The procession will then continue to Nivdungya Vithoba Mandir in Nana Peth, covering a route of 11 km. Both palanquins will stay in Pune city on June 13th (Tuesday).

Special efforts are being made during the Ashadhi Wari Palkhi ceremony to ensure the safety and well-being of devotees and citizens. The focus is on accident prevention, avoiding stampedes, and minimizing inconveniences. Pune Police Commissioner Kumaarr emphasized the protection of devotees’ property and the aim to provide a smooth and memorable experience for all.

DCP (Crime Branch) Amol Zende mentioned that special teams from the crime branch investigation have been appointed to ensure women’s safety and prevent incidents such as chain snatching and pickpocketing.

The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) will conduct thorough checks along the entire palanquin route and stay areas to ensure security. Quick Response Teams (QRT) have been deployed at crowded and important locations.

Similar to last year, live tracking of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj’s palanquins will be available on Pune City Police’s website (diversion.pune police.gov.in) and social media platforms, providing real-time updates on their locations.

Information regarding road closures, traffic diversions, and directions during the palanquin’s arrival, stay, and departure in Pune will be accessible through the provided link and on social media platforms. To assist citizens, rest areas have been designated along the Palkhi route, and police help centers have been established at the places of stay.

Strategically placed barricades aim to manage the crowd effectively, while an efficient CCTV system has been implemented along the Palkhi route and stay areas.
