Atishi to Become Delhi’s New Chief Minister, Kejriwal Set to Resign Today: AAP
Atishi will be the new Chief Minister of Delhi, succeeding Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal is expected to resign later today, following a meeting with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at 4:30 PM.
The announcement came after a legislative party meeting, chaired by Kejriwal at his residence, where Atishi’s name was proposed as his successor. Atishi will become the third woman to serve as Chief Minister of Delhi, following Sheila Dikshit and Sushma Swaraj.
AAP leader Gopal Rai stated that Atishi has been given two key tasks: to continue serving the people of Delhi despite pressure from the BJP, and to protect the achievements of the Kejriwal government from any attempts by the BJP to reverse them.
Kejriwal’s decision comes shortly after his release from Tihar Jail, where he had been held in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. Upon his release, Kejriwal announced his intention to resign within 48 hours and called for early elections, pledging not to return to the Chief Minister’s office until the people of Delhi reaffirmed their trust in him.
