Auction of Seized Properties by PCMC Fails Again; Third Attempt to be Made

Pimpri: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has faced another setback in its attempt to auction 43 properties seized due to unpaid property taxes exceeding ₹1 lakh. Despite conducting two rounds of auctions, neither the property owners nor prospective buyers have shown any interest in contacting the administration. As a result, the civic body is now preparing for a third auction, involving properties worth a total of ₹221.53 crore.

If the third auction also fails to attract buyers or if the property owners do not reach out to the administration, these properties will be taken over by the municipal corporation at a nominal bid price. The tax collection department had sealed and seized these properties from major defaulters. However, even after two auction announcements, there has been no response from property owners.

The list of 43 properties—23 residential and 20 non-residential—was published in newspapers by the tax collection department in January 2025, along with details of pending dues and valuations. The outstanding dues on these properties range from ₹1 lakh to ₹8 lakh. The deadline for registration to participate in the auction was January 31, 2025, by 3 PM, with necessary documents to be submitted at the tax collection office. However, no applications were received from property owners or interested buyers within the given timeframe.

Final Opportunity for Property Owners

The civic administration is now planning a third and final auction, giving the 43 property owners one last chance. A 20-day window will be provided from the date of the auction announcement. If a property owner clears all dues, including the auction process expenses, within this period, their property will be exempted from the auction. However, if there is still no response, the properties will be transferred to the municipal corporation at a nominal price.
