Balewadi: A meeting was scheduled between the residents and police officers on Saturday at the Balewadi police chowki to discuss various issues faced by Balewadi and Baner residents. Senior PI Balaji Pandhre and API Shri Rajkumar Kendre of Chaturshringi police station present in the meeting assured the residents to get issues resolved.

The residents said that the area requires more police officers, as only five police officers patrol the area. However, the population of the place is around 3 lakh.

“The police have begun the survey with help of residents and have identified close to 70 spots which need night patrolling and would be adding more patrolling teams,” said the API Rajkumar Kendre.

Residents complained about the loud music played by youths while they are also seen consuming alcohol on the roadside or in cars after the bars and pubs are closed.

Police Inspector Balaji Pandhare said, “Along with the police, the excise department plays an important role in keeping a strict watch on the Bars and Wine shops. They also need to be roped in. Therefore a joint meeting of police, excise department and PMC officials will be organised soon.”

The residents also complained about hooliganism and alcohol consumption at various spots like open plots, unused amenity space, by- lanes, and the famous Samiksha area.

Pandhare said, “Strict action will be taken on the commercial establishments that cause nuisance to residents. ‘Shantata Committee’ which includes eminent and socially active citizens will be restructured and this will act as a connecting thread between residents and the police.”

He also assured that senior citizen cards will be issued soon and they can get themselves registered with the nearest police station for better safety.
