Pimpri Chinchwad: The Yutak charitable trust in Pimpri Chinchwad city has been organising a pride walk for the LGBTIQ community since 2018, to mark the decision of the Supreme Court repealing Section 377 in India.  This year, a walk was organised on December 18, 2022.

In the fourth LGBTIQ pride walk from Linear garden to Kunal Icon Road and back to Konkan Chowk, a total of 165 LGBTIQ community members from various organisations participated.

“The Pride Walk is organised every year to celebrate the repealing of Section 377. But this year, the walk was more special because the Maharashtra government agreed to the recruitment of trans-persons in the police force after the High Court’s order,” said Anil Ukarade, organiser of the walk and chairman of Yutak Charitable Trust.

Ukarande added, “We want to inform the society that we are a part of them. Earlier, same sex marriages were illegal in the country.  Many a time, we were seen as criminals but removal of Section 377 implies that we are part of the society. And every queer person should be treated with equality and get equal opportunities.

The Walk Marshal was Vijaya Wasave who works in a government organisation. She is the first transgender woman to get her identify from Maharashtra’s Nandurbar village.
