Baner Pashan Hill reels under threat ; citizens hold protest against illegal destruction
Over 100 residents from Baner Pashan came together to protest against the illegal cutting of Baner Hill at a programme organised on December 11. The protest saw participation of Pashan Baner Tekdi Bachao Nagrik Kruti Samiti, residents of Pashan, Baner, Aundh, Someshwarwadi, Sutarwadi, Bavdhan, Sus, Mhalunge.
An active resident of the area informed that on December 7 the residents of the area noticed that the hill was being cut by using heavy machinery. Destruction of our hills will bring major disaster in the city. We were promised that PMC will not hold any sort of destruction on the hill. According to the BDP plan 2015 order only 9 meter road can be constructed on the hill. But in reality 18 meter road is being made without any clarity on why and with whose permissions it is being made ?
The residents have created a letter demanding:
Stopping of hill cutting completely
Restoring the hill to its original form
Road to be constructed leaving enough space for the original hill area.
Imposing fine on those constructing road
Measurement of the hill through Collector office
Ensure hills are protected and not destroyed further
The programme was attended by Prakash Dandekar, Gaurav Fadnavis, Rahul Kokate, Madhukar Dalvi, Monali Shah, Yamini Rathi, Prahlad Saykar, Aniket Murkute, Ashish Katke, Mohan Hingde, Sanjeev Naik, Suresh Sasar, Govind Bhoite and many others.
