In observance of Ram Navami, a significant Hindu festival honouring the birth of Lord Rama, banks in several states will remain closed on Wednesday, as per the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday schedule. Festivities for Ram Navami include important ceremonies held at Ayodhya and numerous Rama temples across India.

States including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Chandigarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Himachal Pradesh will witness bank closures for the occasion.

Apart from Ram Navami, several other holidays are marked in April. On April 19, the states of Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Meghalaya, and Tamil Nadu will observe bank closures due to the Lok Sabha General Elections 2024. Additionally, on April 20, Tripura will have banks closed for Garia Puja, while Bangalore will witness bank closures on April 26 due to elections.

Bank holidays, aside from national festivals, are determined by each state’s festivities. The Reserve Bank of India categorizes these holidays into three types: Negotiable Instruments Act Holidays, Real-Time Gross Settlement Holidays, and Bank Account Closing Holidays.

Regarding the 2024 elections, they will be conducted over seven phases. The initial phase begins on April 19, followed by subsequent phases on April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1.

In a move to facilitate voting, the government of Rajasthan has declared a paid holiday for employees across government and private sectors during the state’s Lok Sabha elections.

Similarly, in Shillong, all state government offices and educational institutions will remain closed on April 19, 2024, to allow voters to participate in the General Election to Lok Sabha, 2024.
