India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in Ahmedabad to win the title and become the first team to win the tournament three times.

Team India scripted history after defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the T20 World Cup 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With the victory, India became the first team in the world to win the T20 World Cup three times, while also becoming the first side to successfully defend the title and the first to lift the trophy on home soil.

Following the historic triumph, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a massive reward of ₹131 crore for the Indian team, recognising their remarkable performance in the tournament.

Led by Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian side delivered a dominant performance in the final to secure the title in front of a packed stadium. Apart from the BCCI reward, the team also received ₹27.48 crore (USD 3,000,000) as the official prize money for winning the tournament.

The runners-up New Zealand earned ₹14.65 crore (USD 1,600,000) for finishing second. Teams that reached the Super Eight stage received ₹3.48 crore (USD 380,000), while the losing semi-finalists took home ₹7.24 crore (USD 790,000). Teams eliminated in the group stage received ₹2.29 crore (USD 250,000).

In the final match, New Zealand won the toss and chose to field, but the decision quickly turned against them as India’s batting lineup produced an explosive start.

Sanju Samson led the charge with a brilliant 89 runs off 46 balls, while Abhishek Sharma smashed 52 runs off just 21 balls. The duo added 98 runs for the opening wicket, giving India early momentum.

After Abhishek’s dismissal, Samson continued the attack and built a 105-run partnership with Ishan Kishan, who scored 54 runs off 25 balls, further strengthening India’s position in the match.

The commanding performance helped India post a formidable total and eventually secure a 96-run victory, sealing one of the most memorable triumphs in the country’s T20 World Cup history.

With the title defence and record-breaking third championship, Suryakumar Yadav’s Team India has now etched its name in cricket history, marking a landmark moment for Indian cricket.
