Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga Temple to Remain Closed for Three Months from January 1,2026
Pune: Bhimashankar Temple Reopens For Devotees After Five Months; Online Pass Mandatory For Entry
Pune: The Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga Temple, one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, will remain closed to devotees for three months starting January 1, 2026. The decision was announced by the temple authorities to carry out renovation and development work at the historic shrine.
Officials said the closure is part of the Bhimashankar temple development plan. The work will mainly focus on renovating the assembly hall of the main temple. For the safety of devotees, darshan at the main sanctum has been temporarily stopped during the construction period.
Temple authorities stated that the closure is expected to last around three months, depending on the progress of the renovation work. Due to the large number of visitors, entry to the temple परिसर has been restricted to avoid overcrowding and ensure safety.
An administrative survey and detailed planning exercise will be conducted over the next eight days. Based on the findings, further decisions will be taken regarding the scale and timeline of the renovation.
With the Christmas and New Year holidays approaching, many devotees had planned to visit Bhimashankar. The temple administration has advised pilgrims to complete their darshan before January 1, 2026, as the temple will remain closed after that date.
Located in the Sahyadri mountain range, Bhimashankar is not only an important religious site but also a popular destination for nature lovers and trekkers.
