On February 3, the members of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha Pune allegedly vandalized Lalit Kala Kendra in Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) by throwing ink, damaging properties, etc.

An incident of chaos unfolded at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) during a recent play, sparked by alleged objectionable dialogues and scenes. The turmoil involved members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) –

The play titled “Jab We Met,” organized by Lalit Kala Kendra students faced accusations of distorting the Ramayana and causing offense to sentiments.

The theatrical production delved into the personal lives of actors who portrayed characters in the Ramayana. Although written and directed by a Lalit Kala Kendra student, objections were raised by ABVP activists against certain dialogues, leading to the disruption of the play.

The drama depicted Lord Ram and Lord Sita as clowns, with Lord Ram subjected to insults and offensive language. ABVP Pune members took a stand against what they deemed disrespectful portrayals of Hindu deities, asserting that such language would not be tolerated, and action should be taken against those responsible.

The play showcased the rehearsal journey of actors involved in Ramlila, intending to offer a unique perspective. However, it faced criticism for being confusing and was defended by the artists as an exploration of the actors’ experiences rather than a mockery of Lord Ram.
