The long-awaited Bopkhel bridge over the Mula River has been completed, bringing massive relief to residents of Bopkhel who previously had to take a grueling 16 km detour to reach Pimpri. The bridge’s construction, undertaken by the Pimpri Municipal Corporation on July 20, 2019, was initially stalled due to court proceedings and delays in site possession from the Defense Department.

The bridge, measuring 1856 meters in length and 8.40 meters in width, will significantly reduce travel time and fuel costs for citizens traveling from Khadki Cuttack Mandal area to Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune city. The reduced distance of 2.9 km will make daily commutes seamless. Access roads of 58 meters on the Bopkhel side and 262 meters on the Khadki side have also been constructed.

The late Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar and Minister of State for Defense Shripad Naik played a pivotal role in constructing the bridge, collaborating with the Defense Department. Former local corporator Vikas Dolas stated that citizens will get a big relief due to this bridge. A godown and parking lot have been set up as per the Defense Department’s suggestions.

Defense officials will inspect the bridge before opening it to traffic. Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Chief Engineer Pramod Ombhase assures that this process will be completed soon. With its completion, the Bopkhel bridge is expected to be inaugurated before the upcoming assembly elections’ code of conduct comes into effect.

The bridge’s completion marks a significant milestone for the region, promising to transform the daily lives of Bopkhel residents. As the city awaits the bridge’s public dedication, residents are eager to reap the benefits of this infrastructure project.
