A heated altercation erupted at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) when an alleged assault took place following the deletion of ‘political’ posts from a social media group. The police have identified the accused as Vaibhav Dighe, Ram Tarpude, Karan Vakode, and Ganesh Kakade.

According to Anil Phude, administrator of a social media group comprising SPPU students including the accused, the incident unfolded when he deleted a post by Tarpude, deemed to contain political content. Phude, in his capacity as administrator, urged members to refrain from posting such content. However, the accused reposted a similar message, leading to its deletion by the administrator.

The situation escalated on Friday when Tarpude, accompanied by his friends, confronted Phude regarding the deleted posts. Senior Inspector Ajay Kulkarni of Chatuhshrungi Police Station stated, “A heated argument ensued and the accused thrashed the complainant.”

The Chatuhshrungi Police Station has filed a complaint under Sections 324 and 323 of the Indian Penal Code against the accused individuals.
