Cancel Hotel-Motel Stops That Fail To Provide Good Facilities To Passengers: Pratap Sarnaik Directs MSRTC

Mumbai, April 16, 2025: Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik has directed the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) to cancel halts at hotels and motels that fail to offer clean, affordable, and passenger-friendly services during long-distance bus journeys.

The minister’s order follows numerous complaints from passengers regarding unhygienic restroomsstale or overpriced food, and rude behavior from hotel staff at designated halts along MSRTC bus routes. Noting the seriousness of the matter, Sarnayak instructed the MSRTC administration to conduct a statewide survey of all hotel and motel halts currently in use.

He emphasized that passenger health and comfort must not be compromised, even if it means foregoing the corporation’s revenue from these hotel partnerships. The Vice Chairman and Managing Director of MSRTC has been asked to submit a detailed report within 15 days, identifying substandard stops and recommending suitable replacements.

“Even if MSRTC loses income from these hotels, we will not compromise on the services provided to our passengers,” said Minister Sarnaik, stressing that no political pressure should influence decisions about terminating underperforming halts.

The review will include a reassessment of rest areas, and if found inadequate, those halts will be discontinued and replaced with better alternatives to ensure safe and comfortable travel for passengers across Maharashtra.
