Car Catches Fire Near Khandala Tunnel on Pune-Mumbai Expressway, No Injuries Reported
Pune, May 24: A moving car suddenly caught fire near the Adoshi tunnel in the Khandala ghat section of the Pune-Mumbai Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway around midnight on Friday. The vehicle was completely gutted in the blaze. Fortunately, the driver managed to stop the car in time and escape unhurt, preventing any casualties.
According to detailed information, the incident occurred around midnight as the car was travelling from Mumbai to Pune. As it neared the Adoshi tunnel, smoke started emanating from the engine. Realising the danger, the driver quickly pulled over to the roadside and jumped out of the vehicle. Within moments, the car was engulfed in flames.
The fire created panic among other motorists. Alert drivers immediately contacted highway police and emergency services. Teams from the Borghat Highway Police, emergency traffic management units, and the fire brigade rushed to the scene and worked tirelessly to bring the fire under control.
The incident caused a temporary disruption in traffic on the Pune-bound lane of the expressway, with vehicles lined up near the tunnel. However, traffic was restored after timely intervention by police officials and after the fire was extinguished.
While no injuries were reported, the car was completely destroyed in the fire, resulting in significant damage. The exact cause of the blaze is yet to be confirmed, but an initial assessment suggests it may have been due to a short circuit.
In light of this incident, the traffic department has urged motorists to conduct regular checks on their vehicles before travelling on the expressway.
