Caught on CCTV: Rs 30 crore fine collected

The Regional Transport office, Pune has collected a fine amounting to Rs 29,95,31,900 (Twenty-nine crore 95 lakh, 31 thousand and 900 rupees) from 5,71,534 (Five lakh Seventy One thousand and Five hundred and thirty-four) people who were caught on CCTV cameras while violating traffic rules between January and June.

Pune RTO has installed CCTC cameras on a majority of city roads and violators are immediately spotted and e-challans are issued to them. Jumping signals and speeding are the most common violations happening in the city.

While the highest number of traffic violators were in January, the lowest were in June.

From the middle of June, traffic police have stopped penalising people on road with fines, instead the focus has turned towards disciplining them.  

“CCTV gives concrete information and it becomes a better option as people get challans directly on their mobile no,” added Sanjeev Bhor, deputy regional transport officer, Pune.
