Same-day marks upload mandatory; deviation may lead to cancellation of practicals
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a strong reminder to all affiliated schools regarding the conduct of Class 10 and Class 12 practical examinations, projects, and internal for the 2025–26 academic session. The Board has warned that even minor deviations from prescribed norms could invite serious consequences, including cancellation of practical exams.
According to the official notice, practical examinations must be conducted strictly within the fixed window from January 1 to February 14, 2026. Schools have been instructed to complete all preparations well in advance and avoid last-minute issues related to infrastructure, examiners, or materials.
One of the most critical instructions reiterated by CBSE is the mandatory same-day upload of marks. Schools must upload practical marks on the very day the assessment is conducted. Once submitted, marks cannot be edited or corrected under any circumstances. CBSE has cautioned schools to exercise extreme care while uploading marks, as errors will not be rectified later and may impact students’ final results.
The Board has also laid down strict evaluation norms. Marks must be awarded strictly as per the CBSE marking scheme and based solely on student performance. Principals and examiners have been specifically instructed to ensure that maximum marks are not awarded casually or uniformly.
For Class 12 practical exams, CBSE has reiterated that only Board-appointed external examiners are authorised to conduct assessments. Any practical examination conducted using an unauthorised examiner will be treated as null and void, regardless of circumstances.
CBSE has further clarified that no exemptions will be granted to students participating in national or international sports events. Such candidates must appear for practical exams along with other students. Separate or special practical exams will not be conducted for sports participants.
Schools have also been instructed to ensure proper laboratory infrastructure, availability of answer books, and necessary equipment. Any issue related to materials or logistics must be immediately reported to the concerned CBSE Regional Office.
From February 1 onwards, school principals are required to closely monitor the daily conduct of practical exams and mark uploads. CBSE has made it clear that non-compliance at any stage may result in cancellation of practical examinations conducted at the school.
In addition, CBSE has announced revised remuneration rates for examiners and functionaries involved in practical examinations for the 2025–26 session. Details regarding the updated payment structure are available in the official circular.
With practical marks playing a crucial role in final board results, CBSE has underlined the need for transparency, discipline, and strict adherence to procedure. Schools, students, and parents have been advised to remain alert and ensure full compliance to avoid last-minute complications.
