Pune: Anil Lohare, a suspect in the Chakan drug case, allegedly shared information about producing the synthetic drug mephedrone (MD) with Lalit Patil, drug mafia, as per the investigation by the Pune city police.

The police officials informed the court on Friday that Lohare, who studied chemical engineering, provided the formula to Patil. The court has granted police custody to Abhishekh Balkawade and Lalit’s brother Bhushan Patil until Sunday.

The police officials explained that they need to interrogate Lohare, who is currently in the penitentiary, for his alleged involvement with Lalit, Bhushan, and Balkawade in establishing the drug manufacturing factory in Shinde village, located in Nashik district.

The authorities are currently determining the scale of MD production associated with this case. Last Tuesday, the Pune police, along with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF), arrested Bhushan, Lalit’s brother, and his accomplice Balkawade in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. Lalit, an undertrial prisoner serving time at Yerawada Jail, was admitted to Sassoon General Hospital for the treatment of tuberculosis and hernia.

However, on October 2, Patil managed to escape from the hospital. Patil was charged with involvement in the illegal sale of narcotics and was arrested on September 30 during a raid by the anti-narcotics cell. During the raid, Subhash Janaki Mandal, 29, an associate of Patil, was apprehended for possessing 1.71 kg and 53 milligrams of mephedrone, which had an estimated value of ₹2.14 crore.

Balkawade, also known as German, is believed to be a close associate of Lalit, according to the police. The phone seized by the Pune city police from Lalit contained call records under the name German. The police suspect that Bhushan and German may have assisted Lalit in his escape from Sassoon Hospital. However, the police have stated that further interrogation will uncover additional individuals who aided Lalit in his escape.

On Friday, a team from the Pune city police travelled to Mumbai to question Lalit Patil, the accused drug dealer who is currently in the custody of the Mumbai police. An officer from the Pune city police informed that Mumbai police had arrested Patil in a drug case registered at Sakinaka police station. Our team interrogated him in connection with a drug case registered at Bund Garden police station in Pune city.”
