Chaos at Lalbaugcha Raja: Woman Devotee Harassed in Crowd, VIPs Seen Relaxing for Selfies, Video Viral
Ganesh Chaturthi has arrived with its usual fanfare, and with it, the much-awaited appearance of Mumbai’s most iconic deity—Lalbaugcha Raja. Every year, lakhs of devotees gather to catch a glimpse of the revered Ganpati idol, with lines stretching for hours and sometimes days. But this year, joy turned to chaos when a shocking incident unfolded inside the pandal.
In the middle of a packed crowd, a woman devotee was reportedly pushed and manhandled by security personnel. The incident occurred just as the festival was picking up momentum, sparking outrage among the gathered devotees.
According to reports, the altercation broke out near the mukh darshan queue—the line designated for those who wish to view the face of the idol. A disagreement arose between a female devotee and female security guards after the woman requested more time near the idol. With thousands waiting behind her, the guards attempted to move her along, but the situation escalated into a heated argument. At one point, the devotee was seen pushing one of the guards.
As tensions grew, volunteers stationed at the mandap had to step in and defuse the situation. The woman and the security personnel were separated, and order was eventually restored. However, the brief disturbance highlighted deeper concerns about crowd management and the handling of devotees.
What angered many even more was the visible disparity in treatment between ordinary devotees and VIPs. While common citizens were rushed through after waiting hours in line, those in the VIP queue appeared to be enjoying extended time with the idol—some even stopping to take selfies. This unequal treatment, especially in a space meant for worship, left many devotees feeling hurt and disrespected.
Videos capturing this divide quickly spread across social media, with netizens calling out the organizers for promoting a VIP culture at a religious event that’s supposed to be for all. Many questioned whether devotion now comes with a price tag.
Despite these controversies, the faith in Lalbaugcha Raja remains unshaken. The mandal continues to draw massive crowds from across Mumbai and even from outside the city. For many, visiting this pandal is a spiritual journey, one they’re willing to wait in line for, sometimes more than 24 hours, just to have a few seconds in front of their beloved Bappa.
