Pune : IMD have forecasted a further decrease in temperatures in the upcoming days. Following the ongoing trend of dropping mercury levels, Pune witnessed a drop in temperature to 12.3 degrees Celsius at Shivajinagar on Friday. Other areas in the city also experienced a decline in minimum temperatures, ranging from one to two degrees Celsius. Pashan recorded the season’s lowest temperature at 10.6 degrees Celsius, potentially the lowest in the state.

The city has been undergoing a consistent decrease in both minimum and maximum temperatures over the past four to five days. Notably, December 15 marked an even lower temperature compared to December 14. The average minimum temperature for the first half of December 2023 is 15.8 degrees Celsius. In comparison, the corresponding period last year saw an average minimum temperature of 15.17 degrees Celsius, and in 2021, it was 15.77 degrees Celsius.

IMD Pune predicts that the current chilly conditions in Pune will persist for a brief period, with a marginal temperature increase expected in the next 48 hours. However, the chill is anticipated to return starting December 18.

Anupam Kashyapi, the head of the weather forecasting department at IMD Pune, explained, “Moisture is coming via south-easterly winds, and although a clear sky is anticipated in the coming days, there is no significant temperature rise expected. Hazy conditions are likely in the early mornings. From December 18 onward, northerly wind components are expected to penetrate north-central Maharashtra, bringing another round of temperature decline.”

On December 15, Pashan recorded the lowest temperature of the season at 10.6 degrees Celsius.
