Pune : In the face of escalating pollution levels in the Indrayani River at Alandi, the Human Rights Protection Organization organized a peaceful protest. Participants silently expressed their concerns by adorning black bands across their mouths and holding up placards with powerful messages such as ‘Preserve the river, preserve life’.
The aim was to emphasize the severity of the pollution crisis and call for strict measures against the parties accountable for discharging chemical-laden waste into the river. Alandi, renowned for being the site of Sant Dnyaneshwar’s final resting place, attracts devotees from all corners of Maharashtra who come to cleanse themselves in the sacred waters of the Indrayani River. Regrettably, the present condition of the river is distressing, characterized by the presence of hazardous foam caused by the uncontrolled release of chemicals.
As per the information provided, protestors highlighted the endangerment of the health of millions, specifically the warkaris. The objective of the protest was to prompt the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and Alandi Municipal Council to take immediate action.
As per the information received, they levelled allegations against the PCMC’s environment department and called for legal consequences to be imposed on those responsible, including the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
