Clear Electricity Dues With MSEDCL Amnesty Scheme: Deadline Extended To March 2025

Pune Leads Maharashtra In Power Connections With 3.9 Million Consumers, Adds 4 Lakh New Connections In 2 YearsÂ
Pune, February 14, 2025: According to a recent Supreme Court ruling, even if a property changes ownership, any outstanding electricity bill must be paid by the new owner or occupant. To assist consumers in clearing their dues, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has extended its Abhay Scheme until March 31, 2025, providing a unique opportunity for residential, commercial, industrial, and other non-agricultural consumers to become debt-free.
Despite not currently needing electricity, 17,261 out of 29,501 consumers in Pune’s regional division have already utilized the scheme to clear their dues. Additionally, 10,135 consumers have had their connections restored, while 5,908 have received new electricity connections. The scheme applies to consumers whose power supply was permanently disconnected by March 31, 2024, except for agricultural and public water supply users.
Under the Abhay Scheme, consumers can clear only the principal amount of their arrears and receive a 100% waiver on interest and late payment penalties. Moreover, those opting for a one-time payment can enjoy an additional 10% discount if they are low-tension consumers and 5% if they are high-tension consumers. Alternatively, consumers can pay 30% of the principal upfront and the remaining 70% in six interest-free installments.
According to Pune Regional Director Bhujang Khandare, 33,304 applications have been received so far. Of these, 29,501 consumers have paid a total principal amount of ₹43.11 crore. Pune district recorded the highest collection, with 12,096 consumers paying ₹27.56 crore. In other districts, 1,667 consumers in Satara paid ₹2.09 crore; 4,719 consumers in Solapur paid ₹4.02 crore; 6,453 consumers in Kolhapur paid ₹6.36 crore; and 4,566 consumers in Sangli paid ₹3.08 crore.
The scheme is also applicable to consumers in franchise areas, who can apply and pay their dues through MSEDCL’s official website or mobile app. Consumers can visit the nearest MSEDCL office for further information.
