Mumbai, January 18, 2025: The Mumbai-Pune Expressway has been severely affected by massive traffic congestion caused by the Coldplay concert at D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The gridlock, stretching 8 to 10 kilometers from Turbhe to Kharghar, has left thousands of commuters stranded for hours.

Even Maharashtra State Government ministers traveling to Pune were caught in the traffic, struggling to navigate through the jam. The situation has raised serious concerns, with several ambulances reportedly stuck in the congestion, hindering emergency services.

The chaos is attributed to the launch of Coldplay’s much-anticipated “Music of the Spheres” world tour, with concerts scheduled for January 18, 19, and 21, 2025. The shows are rumored to be the British rock band’s final live performances before retirement, drawing massive crowds from across the region.

Despite extensive preparations, the influx of vehicles has overwhelmed local infrastructure, leaving traffic police struggling to manage the situation. To make matters worse, allegations of ticket scalping have surfaced, with tickets reportedly being resold at exorbitant prices on unauthorized platforms. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) had previously criticized the official ticketing platform, BookMyShow, for its inability to meet public demand, which they claim led to the black market surge.

Adding to the congestion, a Sonu Nigam concert held nearby has exacerbated the traffic woes.

Authorities are working to address the situation and ensure smooth movement, especially for emergency vehicles. Commuters and concertgoers are advised to plan their travel carefully and expect significant delays during the three-day event.
