PUNE: Public Works Department Minister Dada Bhuse conducted an inspection of the ongoing new missing link project from Khopoli to Kusgaon on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. As per the information provided, Maharashtra State Road Development Board Joint Managing Director Anilkumar Gaikwad, Chief Engineer Rajesh Patil, Superintending Engineer Satish Shravagi, Executive Engineer Ajit Patil, Deputy Engineer Vishal Bhoite, and others were present.

According to Bhuse, the ‘Missing Link Project’ on the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway, stretching 13.3 kilometres, is an ambitious undertaking by the state government. The project features two tunnels measuring 1.67 kilometres and 8.92 kilometres in length. Approximately 75 to 80 percent of the project has been completed, with a target completion date set for September 2024.

Notably, the project includes the construction of a 180-metre-high bridge and the widest tunnel, aiming to alleviate traffic congestion in the Lonavala and Khandala areas while saving time and fuel for commuters. The government is actively addressing traffic congestion issues by completing various highways, such as the Samruddhi Mahamarg, Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway, Missing Link Project, and the planned Nagpur-Goa Highway. Additionally, plans are in place to connect all districts of the state through expressways.

Further, Bhuse highlighted that the implementation of such projects on a priority basis is driving the state’s development. Prior to the inspection, a review meeting was held at Kusgaon, during which Patil provided a presentation on the progress of the missing link project. The presentation covered details regarding the project’s length, width, height, cost, route, vehicle speed limit, traffic congestion, safety measures, drainage systems, work quality, and utilisation of modern technology.
