Congress, Uddhav Sena, And Sharad Pawar's NCP Agree To Contest 85 Seats Each In Maharashtra Elections
After weeks of intense discussions, the seat-sharing agreement among the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) allies Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has been finalized. Each party will contest 85 seats in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections.
The deal was reached after a lengthy meeting mediated by Sharad Pawar, which lasted over six hours and resumed the following morning. This brings the total to 255 seats among the three major parties, with the remaining 33 seats allocated to smaller MVA allies or possibly redistributed.
Shiv Sena UBT leader Sanjay Raut and Congress’s Nana Patole jointly announced the agreement, confirming that the remaining seats would be distributed among friendly parties after further discussions.
The negotiation had previously stalled over several seats in key regions such as Mumbai, Nashik, and Vidarbha. Initially, there were disagreements on the number of seats each party would contest, with the Sena (UBT) pushing for 100 seats, Congress seeking 125, and the NCP aiming for 88.
Polling for the 288-member Maharashtra assembly is scheduled for November 20, with vote counting on November 23.
