Corporators promoting their family names through these boards irks public

Huge ‘selfie points’ have been built by corporators at various places in the city. A majority of the boards which read – ‘I Love Katraj’, ‘I Love Warje’ and many other like-wise, have been erected without the permission of Pune municipal corporation.

Also, the PMC electrical department has also been kept in the dark regarding electricity consumption to light up the boards in the evening.

“Many corporators have also highlighted the names of their family members on these boards. The state government has issued an order regarding using the name on digital boards. We will go through it and action will be taken accordingly. Taking power connection from a street light is also not appropriate,” said Vikram Kumar, Pune Municipal Corporation chief who is now working as an administrator.

Shrinivas Kandul, head of PMC electrical department said, “Taking power from the street lights can cause an accident. No one should alter the passage of electricity to the street lights. The permission was not taken from the PMC electrical department before lighting up these sign boards.”

The PMC has received 77 complaints regarding corporators using family members’ names on the digital boards.
