It unfolded with Kapil Dev addressing the gathering and appreciating the Manipal Hospital for pioneering efforts in introducing advanced robotic technology for orthopaedic surgeries.

Given that nearly 30% of the Indian population grapples with knee-related issues, the promise of robotic-assisted surgeries boasting a 98% success rate offers immense hope for long-lasting joint replacements, surpassing conventional methods.

Kapil Dev drew parallels between innovation in sports and healthcare technology, stressing the importance of speedy recovery and minimal discomfort as the need of the hour for orthopaedic patients, lauding the potential of robotic-assisted surgery to ensure a return to an active lifestyle with ease.

Dr. Sinukumar Bhaskaran, an authority in adult joint replacement and robotic arthroplasty at Manipal Hospital, explained that the precision and safety features of the technology make his job and the job of several other surgeons much more accurate.

In a conversation with Pune Pulse, when asked about the 2% possibility of a so-called robotic error per se, he answered that the perfectly accurate outcome is always anticipated because all information about the patient is fed into the machine. It behaves more than a mere assistant at times and is completely capable of performing the entire surgery. However, patients and people require doctors’ supervision to put their faith in them.
