Pune: The Pune crime branch’s social security cell raided the hookah bar operating at the Cult Terra House Restaurant and Bar in Magarpatta. During the raid, hookah and other equipment were seized.  Two people have been booked in this incident.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, a police official confirmed the raid and said that a case has been registered against 2 people. 

As per information shared by Bharat Jadhav, Senior Police Inspector, Social Security Cell, Pune Crime Branch, a tip-off about an unauthorized hookah bar operational at the Cult Terra House was received. When the restaurant was raided, they discovered that an unauthorized hookah bar was operational. Hence, they have booked two people. After questioning them, the Hadapsar police station registered a case against them.

A case has been registered at the Hadapsar police station under Sections 4-A and 21-A of Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Maharashtra Amendment Act 2018. The police have seized hookah equipment worth Rs 16, 849 and flavours.

The action was taken by senior PI Bharat Jadhav, API Ashwini Patil-Yevel, policeman Ajay Rane, Kishor Bhujbal and Omkar Kumbhar. 

Because of the upcoming New Year’s celebrations, the police have been keeping a close eye on the city’s pubs and bars. In several locations, alcohol is also sold illegally. The police are also monitoring hookah parlours. Information that a hookah bar being run illegally in the rooftop restaurant at Cult Terra House restaurant and bar was forwarded to the crime branch’s social security cell.

It is worthy to note that Pune has a lot of illegal rooftop bars and restaurants. In pubs near the Bund Garden, Viman Nagar, and Koregaon Park, Baner alcohol is served until late at night. These areas are being used by pubs without permission. The local police station’s officials have ignored this problem. Politicians and law enforcement officers are allegedly supporting these illegal bars, and the proprietors don’t fear any action.
