Cyclone Montha Alert: Heavy Rainfall Predicted Across Maharashtra in Next 24 Hours, Several Districts on Alert
Maharashtra: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for several districts in Maharashtra as Cyclone Montha, brewing over the Bay of Bengal, is expected to intensify within the next 24 hours.
The cyclone is projected to make landfall near Kakinada on the Andhra Pradesh coast on October 28, triggering widespread rainfall across parts of Maharashtra.
Weather officials have also reported the activation of low-pressure zones over both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, increasing the likelihood of unseasonal rainfall across the state.
A low-pressure belt over the Arabian Sea may bring moderate to heavy showers to Mumbai and Konkan regions over the next three days, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and wind speeds of 40–50 km/h.
The IMD has placed Vidarbha and Marathwada under Yellow and Orange alerts for October 28, while a Red alert has been issued for regions surrounding Vidarbha. Southern states remain under an Orange alert for the second consecutive day due to the cyclone’s movement.
As per forecasts, October 29 is likely to see intense rainfall over Central India and Maharashtra, particularly affecting North Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Konkan, and parts of Central Maharashtra, where heavy downpours with thunder and gusty winds are expected.
By October 30, rainfall activity is likely to persist in Konkan, Central Maharashtra, and Vidarbha, potentially disrupting daily life in several districts. Authorities have urged residents and fishermen to stay alert and follow safety advisories as the weather system strengthens.
