The accused, son of the landlord, used hidden cameras to secretly record the woman in her bathroom and bedroom, seizing the opportunity when she left her keys with him.

A 30-year-old man in Delhi has been arrested for allegedly installing hidden spy cameras in the bedroom and bathroom of a woman tenant, an IAS aspirant, to secretly record her. The accused, identified as Karan, is the son of the landlord of the building where the victim was residing while preparing for her civil services exams.

The disturbing case came to light when the victim noticed unusual activity on her WhatsApp account. Upon checking devices linked to her account, she discovered an unknown laptop listed, which raised her suspicions. Becoming cautious, the woman began searching her apartment and found a hidden camera installed in the bulb holder of her bathroom. She immediately alerted the police.

According to East Delhi DCP Apoorva Gupta, when a police sub-inspector arrived to further search the apartment, another spy camera was found in the bulb holder of the woman’s bedroom. Upon questioning, the victim revealed that she often left her house keys with Karan when she traveled.

During police interrogation, Karan admitted to installing the cameras after the victim had entrusted him with her keys when she visited her hometown three months earlier. He had purchased three spy cameras, commonly available in electronics markets, and placed one in the bedroom and another in the bathroom. Since these cameras operated via memory cards rather than online streaming, Karan would use the opportunity to retrieve the footage by requesting the keys from the tenant.

The police recovered one spy camera and two laptops from Karan, which were used to store the recorded footage. The victim became suspicious of her landlord’s behavior and took action, leading to the discovery of the cameras and subsequent filing of a police complaint.

A case has been registered under Section 77 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) at Shakarpur Police Station, and an investigation is currently underway.
