Weather Update: IMD Issues Red Alert For Pune District: Heavy Rain Predicted Ahead Of PM Modi’s Visit
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Pune district for September 25. The alert warns of extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in isolated areas.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Pune on September 26 and 27. He will inaugurate the underground metro corridor from District Court to Swargate and lay the foundation stones for the extension of this route to Katraj.
Additionally, he will kick off an elevated corridor from Pimpri-Chinchwad to Nigdi. For these dates, the IMD has issued a yellow alert, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds in isolated spots.
The monsoon is expected to linger in Maharashtra for several more days. The withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon is unlikely to begin before October.
Officials suggest that the delay in the monsoon’s retreat from Central India may continue, keeping the region under the threat of rain.
Residents are advised to stay alert and take precautions during this period of inclement weather. With significant events planned in Pune, authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure safety and manage any potential disruptions.
24 Sep, Heavy rainfall alerts for Maharashtra during next 4,5 days by IMD.
