The Delhi police have arrested a 37-year-old woman from Bihar, Lovely Singh, for her involvement in the theft and sale of high-end Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs). Lovely was apprehended on April 3 following an operation launched after the arrest of her husband, Govind, last year with a stolen Maruti Brezza, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (east) Apoorva Gupta.

During interrogation, Govind disclosed that Lovely was involved in receiving stolen luxury vehicles from Delhi and then distributing or selling them in Bihar and Jharkhand. Despite efforts by several police teams to locate her, Lovely evaded arrest by frequently changing her residence and residing in prominent societies to avoid suspicion. She was declared a proclaimed offender by the court on December 20, 2023.

Lovely revealed to the police that after completing her graduation, she became associated with individuals involved in the illegal trade of stolen vehicles. Together with her husband, she engaged in the sale and purchase of stolen cars. She also confessed to a previous arrest in Ranchi, Jharkhand, in 2021 for her involvement in a case related to stolen vehicles and robbery.

Lovely had established connections with auto lifters and other recipients of stolen luxury cars, facilitating their purchase and sale. The police have seized nine SUVs, including models like Toyota Fortuner and Hyundai Alcazar, as part of the investigation. Further inquiries are ongoing.
