Deputy Chairperson Dr. Neelam Gorhe Instructs Pune Police To Increase Patrolling And Install CCTV In Isolated Areas
Pune, Oct 5: In light of the rising incidents of violence against women in Pune and its surrounding areas, Deputy Chairperson of the Legislative Council, Dr. Neelam Gorhe, has directed the police department to intensify patrolling to prevent such crimes. Dr. Gorhe emphasized the need for heightened vigilance by the police to curb these incidents.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Pune Police Commissioner’s office, where Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar was also present, Dr. Gorhe expressed concern over the increasing cases of assaults on women. She instructed police to take immediate action against offenders and increase patrols in isolated areas such as Bopdev Ghat, Dive Ghat, Vetal Hill, and NDA areas. She also suggested using sirens during patrols and modernizing police outposts in these regions. Additionally, installing CCTV cameras and ensuring proper lighting and alarms at night were recommended for better surveillance.
Dr. Gorhe further stressed the importance of public awareness regarding these safety measures and urged the police to promote them adequately. She also highlighted the growing trend of crimes linked to the pursuit of quick money and called for stricter measures to control criminal activities.
The police were advised to establish specialized cells, including for senior citizens, caste-based disputes, superstitious practices, and human trafficking, as per Supreme Court guidelines. Dr. Gorhe also mentioned the need for background checks on school bus drivers and conductors to ensure the safety of children, along with workshops on “Good Touch, Bad Touch” in schools.
She concluded by noting that the police should actively share success stories of crime control through media to boost public confidence in the law.
