Aadhaar is a 12-digit identification number issued by the government that contains an individual’s biometric and demographic data, such as iris scans, fingerprints, name, address, gender, and date of birth.

It is one of the largest biometric identification systems in the world and is used to access various government services and benefits, as well as for opening bank accounts, obtaining SIM cards, and more.

Given the significance of this document to Indian citizens, it is crucial to ensure the accuracy of all the provided information. Failure to do so may result in complications. While certain details can be modified multiple times, there are two specific pieces of information that can only be updated once and require meticulous attention.

Typically, individuals frequently update their address due to living on rent or being transferred for work, resulting in multiple changes. However, the birth date remains unchangeable. Therefore, if the date of birth on your Aadhaar card is incorrect, ensure that you update it with the accurate information only. Numerous cases have arisen where people input a random birth date on their Aadhaar card and later attempt to modify it after their child’s admission to school. Subsequently, during board exams, parents once again try to alter it. Thus, it is crucial to provide only the correct details.

The name is a crucial detail that must be filled in with utmost care, as it cannot be changed multiple times. Some individuals tend to enter their nicknames or initials when applying for an Aadhaar Card, neglecting the importance of correct spelling. However, if you later attempt to modify your name, it will not be possible. Therefore, it is essential to maintain consistency in your name across all official documents.

According to UIDAI, a single error in the name and date of birth is permissible, but repeated mistakes are not allowed. Nishu Shukla, the head of the Ghaziabad Aadhaar Seva Kendra under the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDIA), emphasized the complexity of the name and date of birth update process on the Aadhaar Card, urging individuals to exercise caution when providing these details.
