The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune organized a ground-breaking “Training Program for Cyber Commandos” as part of the government’s initiative to bolster cyber defence capabilities across India. This initiative aligns with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), GoI’s recent advisory to establish special wings of cyber commandos within police forces across all States and Union Territories to effectively counter the rising cyber threats. The six months training program was inaugurated on November 5, 2024, at Takshashila Auditorium, DIAT, Pune, in the presence of Dr. B.H.V.S. Narayana Murthy, Vice Chancellor DIAT, Chief Guest Shri Rajesh Kumar, CEO, I4C, MHA, & Dr. G. Athithan, (Retd.) Distinguished Scientist of DRDO.

This training program has been designed to equip participants with the necessary skills to tackle various cyber threats and enhance national security. A batch of officials from various central and state police forces will participate in this intensive training program. The participants will receive comprehensive, hands-on training in diverse aspects of cybersecurity, managing security incidents, equipping them to address complex cyber threats, and implement robust defence mechanisms across multiple sectors.

Dr. B. H.V.S. Narayana Murthy, Vice Chancellor DIAT welcomed all the guests and participants with a promise of an intensive and versatile training at DIAT through this course. He also congratulated to Dr. Manisha Nene, HoD, Deptt of Computer Science and Engg and her team for conducting this important nation building programme initiated by Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India. On the occasion, Dr. G. Athithan highlighted the significance of cyber security in National Security today. He also outlined the roles for which the participants are to be trained and the contents to be covered for each of those roles.

Further, Mr. Rajesh Kumar, CEO of I4C, the Chief Guest briefed about the genesis of the specialized training in light of the evolving cyber challenges, and the role of I4C, MHA in organizing the training programs for law enforcement agencies. The first batch of training for the Cyber Commandos started simultaneously in around nine institutes in India.

This initiative is a crucial step towards building a resilient cyber defence framework in India. It fosters the collaboration among academic institutions and law enforcement agencies to share knowledge and resources. These highly trained professionals will play a pivotal role in securing India’s cyber ecosystem and responding to potential threats.
