Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) has been given the nod to begin construction of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation’s (MSRTC) bus stand at Shivajinagar by Maharashtra deputy CM & Pune guardian minister Ajit Pawar. The state government will provide funding for the project’s completion.

Officials claim that in order to accommodate the metro underground station project, the State Transport (ST) bus stand in Shivajinagar was moved to Wakdewadi. Prior to the state government requesting the Maha-Metro to handle the project, it was decided that Maha-Metro would construct the ST bus stand and metro station at Shivajinagar. Prior to public criticism forcing the authorities to build the ST bus stand at its original location in Shivajinagar, there was also a plan to run the MSRTC bus stop from Wakdewadi and use the original Shivajinagar place for other related works. Siddharth Shirole, a Shivajinagar MLA, had also called for the bus stop to be moved back to its original location.

The cabinet minister Dada Bhuse recently chaired a meeting wherein the decision was made to have the ST bus stand from the Shivajinagar plot.

Ajit Pawar met with officials of the Shivajinagar bus stand project last week. Present were MLA Shirole, divisional commissioner Saurabh Rao, and managing director of Maha-Metro Shravan Hardikar.

Ajit Pawar said that Maha-Metro should begin the bus terminus work and seek assistance from MSRTC. Government offices should be allocated certain spaces at the Shivajinagar plot by the divisional commissioner’s office. Later on, the state government will make money available to pay for the project’s expenses.

A presentation regarding the planned work at Shivajinagar plot had been made by Hardikar.
