Two individuals are facing allegations of defrauding Amazon by obtaining cameras, iPhones, and various other high-value items totaling lakhs of rupees.

The Urwa police have apprehended two individuals, identified by Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal as Raj Kumar Meena, aged 23, and Subhash Gurjar, aged 27, both hailing from Rajasthan in connection with an Amazon scam.

The accused is thought to have collectively defrauded e-commerce platforms of goods valued at more than Rs 1.29 crore, which includes several fraudulent orders for cameras and iPhones. There are a total of 11 cases filed against the pair related to this matter.

They reportedly deceived delivery partners into obtaining these valuable products without making any payment.

The operation started when the duo placed an order on Amazon under the name ‘Amith’. They provided a fake address near the KSRTC bus stand in Mangaluru and a false contact number.

Upon delivery, one of them distracted the delivery person with conversation while the other discreetly swapped the labels on the boxes with those from other items in the order.

Raj Kumar subsequently entered an incorrect OTP, which caused a delay in the delivery process. He employed the same strategy by informing the delivery executive that they would collect the order the following day.

Unaware of the deception, the delivery executive would leave with the wrong items from the 12-item order. The next day, the pair would cancel the order, keeping the original items for themselves.

One of the accused, Raj Kumar Meena, was previously apprehended in a comparable fraud case related to a camera order from Amazon on October 4. The Urwa police detained him on October 18, keeping the original items in their possession.

Amazon’s delivery partner, Mahindra Logistics, became wary of the stickers and alerted Amazon. This led to an investigation that revealed the suspects had swapped genuine Sony cameras for counterfeit ones. Following this, Urwa Police conducted an inquiry that uncovered their modus operandi, ultimately apprehending them as they attempted to exit the city.

Following the registration of a case, the Urwa police initiated an investigation with the oversight of senior officials. The two suspects were first identified by analyzing their ordering patterns on Amazon.

They were apprehended while attempting to exit the city after the police reviewed CCTV footage from both the delivery location and the airport.
