An elderly couple, who are both blind, were rescued from their home on Tuesday after authorities discovered them with the body of their 30-year-old son, not realizing he had passed away four days earlier, according to news agency PTI.

The alarming situation was revealed when neighbors detected a terrible odor coming from the house on Monday and notified the police. When officers arrived, they found the couple in a semi-conscious state next to their son’s body.

According to preliminary investigations by Nagole Police Station’s SHO A Surya Nayak, the man is believed to have died in his sleep about four to five days prior. The elderly parents, both over 60, were unaware of their son’s death and had been trying to reach out to him for food and water without receiving any response. Their weakened voices also meant that neighbors were unable to hear their calls for help.

The police provided the elderly couple with food and water and contacted their older son, who lives in another area of the city. The body of their son has been taken to a state hospital for a post-mortem examination, and a case has been registered. Officers revealed that Pramod had issues with alcoholism and had been living apart from his wife for about a year. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are considering relocating the couple to an old-age home for the care and support they need.
