Fear and panic turned fatal for a 45-year-old electrician in Pune when a dog chased him inside a residential building, leading to a tragic fall from the third floor. Authorities have now booked the pet’s owner for negligence following the incident at Kasba Peth earlier this October. The victim, Ramesh Raghunath Gaikwad, resided in Mangalwar Peth. On October 1, he visited the Siddhivinayak society in Kasba Peth to carry out electrical work. According to police reports, while he was on the third floor, a dog belonging to a resident on the fourth floor began running after him.

Frightened, Gaikwad rushed down the staircase but lost his balance and fell into the building’s duct from the third floor. He was rushed to a hospital but could not survive the injuries sustained in the fall.

Following the incident, the police conducted a thorough investigation. A postmortem was performed, and an accidental death report was filed in accordance with legal procedures. Subsequently, Gaikwad’s wife lodged an FIR against the dog owner at Faraskhana police station. Sub-Inspector Santosh Gore, leading the investigation, noted that the probe revealed the dog owner, Siddharth Kamble, had not taken essential safety measures. “No warning signs or information were provided to alert residents and visitors about the dog’s presence in the building,” Gore said.
