FIR Filed Against ‘Drunk’ Man For Providing False Information To Police Control Room In Pune
Pune city police have registered an FIR against a man accused of making a false report to the police control room while allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred during the Dahi Handi festival on August 27. The accused, identified as 22-year-old Rakesh Mukesh Chavan, a resident of Mangalwar Peth, called the police emergency number 100, claiming that a group of 30 to 40 armed individuals was threatening his life in the Mangalwar Peth area.
Acting on the information, the police control room alerted the Faraskhana police station, which dispatched a team to the location. However, upon arrival, the police found no such group or threat. Attempts to reach Chavan for clarification were unsuccessful as he had turned off his mobile phone.
A subsequent investigation confirmed that Chavan was the caller. Police Havaldar Vivek Patil lodged the FIR against Chavan on Thursday, citing the provision of false information. Chavan has been booked under Section 213 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
According to Senior Police Inspector Prashant Bhasme, the offense is bailable, and while Chavan has not been arrested, a notice has been issued to him for further investigation.
