Shivajiagar constituency MLA Siddharth Shirole said that the work on the multi-level flyover at Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk is scheduled to be completed by August 2024.

The officials of Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) & Pune Traffic Police conducted an on-site review of the flyover work at Pune University Junction which is scheduled to be completed by August 2024.

Giving some insights about the review & flyover work, Rinaj Pathan, Chief Engineer, PMRDA told Pune Pulse “A ramp, approximately of 150 m, from E-Square The Fern to RBI Office, will be created for which 5 pillars will be erected. While construction of the ramp goes on, alternate routes for smooth vehicular traffic are being discussed. For the same, an alternate route from Agricultural College to Range Hills is being considered as the traffic from FC Road can use the alternate route to go towards Range Hills.”

Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole has informed that the work on the multi-level flyover at Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk is planned to be completed by August, and the construction of pillars at the junction will commence next week.

As per further information from the X handle of MLA Siddharth Shirole “In the meeting with PMRDA officials, strategies were devised to expedite the bridge construction, with an aim to alleviate commuter inconvenience caused by traffic congestion. Officials from Tata (Project – Metro Construction), the PMC’s Road Department, and the Pune City Traffic Police were present.”

The tweet further continues “The construction of pillars along University Square begins on January 15, with the middle square’s pillar construction is planned for February. The road widening between the University entrance and the RBI building will introduce an additional lane, improving traffic flow towards Shivajinagar. These changes will also be inspected on Wednesday. Simultaneously, the traffic police will strategize traffic flow before initiating Metro Bridge construction, with actual work starting post their approval.”

The tweet further says “Concerning the Hinjewadi Shivajinagar Puneri Metro, constructing a double flyover at University Chowk has presented challenges due to heavy traffic. My concerns to expedite its construction, raised during the assembly session led to a PUMTA meeting chaired by the Divisional Commissioner. Initially aiming for completion by January 2024, delays in land acquisition and road widening postponed the timeline. Today’s meeting focused on completing the main square and adjacent pillars within the next six months.”

Rahul Mahiwal, PMRDA Commissioner, Vikram Kumar, PMC Commissioner, Vijaykumar Magar, DCP Pune Traffic Police and Tata Project Senior Officials were present for the meeting.
