You know the dreams we cherish as children—the ones that seem magical and effortless—but as we grow up, those dreams often clash with the expectations of our parents and society. Stability and conventional careers are prioritized, and passions are sometimes shelved for practicality. Yet, for a few courageous individuals, that childhood joy refuses to fade, eventually becoming the foundation of something extraordinary.

One such story is that of Shivani Dhopawkar. As a five-year-old, she received a simple, colorful hula hoop as a birthday gift. People around her thought it was cute, just a playful toy, and never imagined it could one day become a career. Encouraged by her father and guided by countless YouTube tutorials, Shivani honed her skills, dazzling friends, family, and teachers with her growing expertise.

As she grew up, life’s expectations took over. Shivani pursued engineering and later joined a corporate IT company, putting her hooping aside to focus on a stable career and support her family. Yet, the love for the hoop never truly left her.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, when life slowed down and people had little to do, Shivani found herself returning to her childhood passion. She picked up the hoop again and began sharing her art online. What started with just a few students soon grew into online classes, eventually reaching thousands of students eager to learn from her.

By 2023, the demand for her teaching and performances had grown so much that Shivani made a life-changing decision: she left her IT job to fully embrace hula hooping as her career. This bold step not only gave her the freedom to explore her art but also allowed her to fulfill one of her most personal dreams—buying her father the home he had always wished for.

Today, Shivani is more than just a performer; she is an inspiration. Known as the “Hula Hoop Queen of Mumbai” and affectionately called the Bombay Hooper, she has gained viral attention through her vibrant performances at festivals like Gudi Padwa, often performing in traditional Nauvari sarees. One of her most memorable moments was when a video of her mesmerizing performance at the grand Nagdevi Cha Maharaja Aagman Sohala 2025 spread across social media, earning her city-wide applause and admiration.

From brand collaborations to teaching workshops and wowing audiences at cultural events, Shivani Dhopawkar has transformed a childhood hobby into a meaningful, fulfilling career. Her journey proves that with passion, persistence, and courage, even the simplest dreams of a five-year-old can blossom into a reality that inspires countless others.
