Pune, March 25, 2026: In a swift and coordinated operation, Pune Police successfully rescued a kidnapped businessman and arrested five accused involved in the crime, officials said on Tuesday.

The incident came to light on March 24, when a trader residing in Gultekdi was abducted from the Timber Market area over a financial dispute. The kidnappers allegedly demanded a ransom of ₹1.5 crore from his wife. Following the complaint, a case was registered at Swargate Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Given the sensitive nature of kidnapping cases, police launched a carefully planned operation to ensure the victim’s safety. Multiple teams from the crime branch were deployed across key locations, including Velhe-Donje and Khed Shivapur, where intensive search operations were carried out.

The accused had instructed the victim’s family to deliver the ransom amount at Mitra Mandal Chowk in Swargate. Acting on this information, police laid a trap at the location. Two individuals who arrived to collect the money were apprehended without alerting the main accused.

During interrogation, the two suspects revealed details about the kidnapping and identified the main accused. Based on the information, police tracked the location where the businessman was being held captive.

A special team led by Assistant Police Inspector Amol Rasal conducted a raid, surrounded the suspects, and safely rescued the victim without any harm. Three more accused were detained at the spot and handed over to Swargate Police Station for further investigation.

Police said the accused are repeat offenders with previous criminal records in both Pune city and rural areas. Further investigation is currently underway.

Senior police officials supervised the entire operation, which involved coordinated efforts from multiple crime branch units and anti-extortion squads, ensuring a successful rescue in a high-risk situation.
