Good news for passengers: Railways to offer meals and packaged drinking water

Railway Board vide letter dt. 27.06.2023, issued instructions for provision of economy meals, snacks/combo meals to be served through extended service counters to be placed at platform near General Seating coaches to facilitate service of economy meals, snacks/combo meals and affordable packaged drinking water to passengers travelling in General Seating coaches of the trains.

The meals are to be supplied from the kitchen units (Refreshment Rooms – RRs & Jan Ahaars – JAs) of IRCTC. The location of these counters is to be decided by Zonal Railways so as to align these counters with the location of GS coaches on platforms. The provision of this extended service counters at the platforms has been done on an experimental basis for a period of 06 months.

IRCTC Zones have been advised to implement the services through the kitchen units (RRs & JAs) for facilitating passengers of GS coaches with the Economy & Snack Meals along with affordable packaged drinking water. IRCTC Zones have also been advised to undertake this activity in due coordination with Zonal Railways.

The extended service counters have been commissioned at various stations. 

Meals will be supplied by kitchen units (Refreshment rooms & Jan Ahaars) of IRCTC.

2 types of meals of 20/- & 50/- will be available.

In central railway it will be provided at following stations-

1) LTT
2) Nagpur
3) Pune
4) Manmad
5) Khandwa
6) Bhusawal.

Further, more stations are being identified.
