Govinda Reflects on Life: "My Struggles Outweigh My Success"
In a candid revelation, Bollywood veteran Govinda opened up about the hardships he has endured, stating that the weight of his struggles far exceeds that of his success. Known as one of the leading stars of the 90s, the actor shared that his rise to fame was shadowed by severe financial challenges within his family.
Govinda, whose father Aroon was an actor and producer and mother Nirmala Devi a singer and actress, described the difficulties he faced growing up. In an interview with Simi Grewal, he disclosed that his father’s transition from acting to film production brought a dramatic shift in their lifestyle, forcing the family to move from a lavish Bandra bungalow to a modest home in Virar, a suburban area of Mumbai.
Speaking about his early life, the actor revealed that after completing his commerce degree, he struggled to find employment. He even applied for a job at the Taj hotels but was rejected due to his inability to speak English. Though films were not on his mind at the time, his primary motivation was to alleviate his mother’s struggles and provide her with a better life.
“When you watch your mother working tirelessly through difficult times, you want to change the situation,” Govinda said in a past interview, acknowledging that his drive to succeed stemmed from witnessing his mother’s hardships.
Govinda’s mother passed away in 1996, followed by his father in 1998, both of whom had the opportunity to witness his stardom. Govinda’s film career flourished throughout the 90s before slowing down in the 2000s.
The actor has recently been discharged from the hospital after an accidental gunshot wound he sustained earlier this week.
