A Gujarati family embarked on a remarkable 73-day road trip in their 73-year-old car, traveling from Ahmedabad to London and covering 10,500 kilometers. Though their journey concluded last year, it recently gained attention on Instagram through a captivating video.
The post’s caption reveals that Daman Thakore and his family took their vintage 1950 MG YT, affectionately named Lal Pari, on an adventure spanning 16 countries over two and a half months. The journey, costing them roughly the price of a Mercedes, was a lifetime experience.
Thakore shared that the car, originally manufactured in a factory in Abingdon, UK, had a symbolic “homecoming” as the trip’s final destination. Detailing their route, Thakore mentioned they left Ahmedabad on August 12 with duffle bags and 80 kg of food. On August 15, they took a sea route from Mumbai to Dubai, arriving on August 28. From Dubai, the family continued their road journey, finally reaching the UK on October 26.

After 11 months of meticulous planning and numerous test drives around Gujarat to prepare ‘Lal Pari’, the vintage car. Finally, the family was ready for their adventure. Daman had an international driving license, although they had to pay local road taxes and insurance fees in each new country. Despite these challenges, their spirit remained undeterred.
In October 2023, the family proudly shared their adventure on social media, expressing gratitude for the support they received. They described the trip as “73 days of madness, sweat, and blood,” celebrating Lal Pari’s incredible journey from India to the United Kingdom. This milestone marked them as the first Indians to achieve such a feat in a vintage car.
